Logo Recreate : Illustration

Rolling stones is one of my favorite magazines, this is the logo of it from a few years back.  The one on the left obviously is my recreation using adobe illustrator. I really liked this software, it is really fun to use. I don't find it too different from Adobe Indesign, it was not too hard for me to use. I think I got better with the pen tool and I like it more now. I got frustrated because the points were too small and I kept getting an error signal, if I missed the point by very little. Yet, it was sort of fun

Porter's Girls are Going Green

Miss Porter's School is going green!!! Everyone should take part!!!!
This was such a fun project!! Our group had to go throw trash to find the parts of the poster. We used a flower idea because Miss Porter's s often associated with flowers, yet we failed in trying to make it look like a daisy. There wasn't much to do with using indesign except for whitening the background. We used 2 different methods, due to the different situations. I like the can poster more as there are more different textures. This was a meaningful and fun assignment

Lets go birds watching

Final version of mine
Initial ugly poster
The one above is the ugly poster and the one below is my version of it. In the past two weeks of classes, I have been working on my poster. We have received a really ugly poster at first and we had to make it look better with the 4 rules of design in mind. The four rules are proximity, contrast, repetition and alignment. I choose to do everything in blue as I came across the picture of birds I have at the bottom, and blue seems to fit well with bird watching, resembling the sky.

I think I have followed repetition the most, as all of my words are in the font of "American Typewriter", some of it are bold while some are just normal. I have also used the same royal blue for the start and the end of the poster, for the title and contact details.

I kept the principle of proximity in mind and grouped the date, time, attire and fee together. I wasn't sure of where I should have put the details of  the activity, and with the help of my teacher, that information was put under the title. This decision was based on the fact that the information wasn't as important as the time, date, fee and attire, but would be best to put at the start, so as to give people an idea of what the activity would be like. That is how it ended underneath the title.

When deciding about the alignment, I tried and play around with them. Usually, I would have just chosen the center alignment for the title straight away as that was what I usually do in writing an essay. After learning more about alignment, I have decided to use left alignment for everything, combining the idea of proximity. Although I put the contact details on the right, I have decided that left alignment still looks better than right.

My poster does not really consist of contrast, as most of them are similar, so I didn't do much of contrasting.

The gray words now in the poster, used to be white with blue outline, after experimenting with different color and drop shadows, grey seemed to look the best. Color choices are really important too.

I really enjoyed creating this poster, which is unlike the ones I created in Word before. This software was really fun to use.
